Maybe Robert Pattinson Can Really Act
OK, all you Robert Pattinson haters out there, here’s his chance to prove you wrong (oh, please don’t mess this up, RobPat!!).
The “Twilight” icon is reportedly in talks to star in “Water for Elephants,” the adaptation of Sara Gruen’s best-seller about a 21-year-old who has to drop out of vet school and join a second-rate circus, with its mangy animals. His co-stars are first-rate Oscar winners: Reese Witherspoon is already cast to play the star performer he falls for, and Sean Penn may be the psycho animal trainer she’s married to.
Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”) will direct, and Richard LaGravenese (“P.S., I Love You”) is writing the script.
In case you didn’t know, Gruen has said she learned about elephant behavior at the Kansas City Zoo. Her guide was an ex-handler there — the husband of a writer friend — who had quit after he got a sharp tusk to the gut. Gruen’s inspiration: Penny the friendly elephant.
